Does anyone have the actual WGS84 coordinates of the monument near the Florida highpoint? I am planning to update my book and I would like to describe the location of the true highpoint using the monument as the starting point. I have what I think is a rough estimate but it is based on trying to pick off distances from the various maps. The coordinates for the monument that I have guessed at are: 30 degrees 59.157 minutes N and 86 degrees 16.915 minutes W (WGS84). This gives a distance to the new highpoint from the monument of 150 yards on a true bearing of 203 degrees. Comments would be appreciated.

Thought this would certainly be of interest to the group. Based on LiDAR information detailed by Andy Hatzos and the late Adam Helman, the actual highest ground in Walton County and the state of Florida actually lies in the patch of woods west of the traditional highpoint, in what seems to be part of the county park. I hadn't seen any accounts of anyone actually visiting this spot, so I wrote up a trip report on peakbagger, which can be seen below. A picture of the summit area has been included.

Most of the rest of the trip was a flop. Made it up Woodall Mountain, but plans to do the candidates for Mississippi's other two ranked summits were scrapped due to hunting season. This, combined with the truly horrible weather here, unfortunately meant literally no other summits on my wishlist in the southeast were worth attempting on this trip.

It appears that NOAA is no longer tracking any monumentation close to Britton Hill. The BM that is shown on the USGS topo map is no longer in their inventory. The Lakewood BM (datasheet attached) is apparently the closest monument to the HP.
