As a Florida resident, it was fun to see Britton Hill being the subject of a flurry of activity just as I joined.

- - - In the upcoming issue of Apex to Zenith (which is a month late and I need to finish this weekend) I shall have the LiDAR solution to Britton Hill, including the direction and distance to the highest ground from the monument.

- - - This LiDAR solution to FL is part of series I am publishing, the past ones being DE in issue #100, IN #107, and IA #109. The DE solution also required historical study, provided by Holmes & Kjelleren, the latter who supplied photos of the trailer park landfill (proving it is not a candidate).

With respect to Delaware, the late Paul Zumwalt took his surveying equipment to Ebright Azimuth and determined that the true HP was in the weedy field west of Ebright Road. I don't remember how long ago that was.

- - - I count seven state highpoints which are in the path of totality. Are there more? We should collect a photograph of each highpoint with the blotted sun. If you capture one, send to newsletter AT highpointers DOT org - John M

Gannett Peak Expedition 2016

This summer I plan on heading to the highest point in Wyoming, Gannett being my #1 objective for the year. Tentative dates are July 23-31, inclusive of travel to/from the trailhead. I plan on using the western approach from Elkhart Park via Pole Creek-Seneca Lake-Indian Pass-Titcomb Basin trails. Base camp will be in Titcomb Basin at one of the lakes there. Obviously this means we will be committed to the harder climbing route going over Bonney/Dinwoody Pass and crossing two glaciers (Dinwoody and Gooseneck). Weather, time and ability permitting, we will also attempt Fremont Peak, provided Gannett is successful.

I do not plan on using an official guide service. I will be organizing a group of 6 experienced climbers, counting myself, who will represent Sierra Mountaineering Club http://www.sierramountaineeringclub.org, a non-profit for which I volunteer as event leader. Because of this, I am unable to assist with a group from the CoHP or Highpointers communities, but I wanted to share my proposed plan here in case others are interested in coordinating either on their own or with another group. Company is welcome on the hike in/out, at base camp and on summit day, but everyone will be responsible for their own route selection and safety.

I am in the incipient stages of expedition planning and do not have many concrete details yet, however those interested in coordinating should feel free in contacting me at hikeclimbrun@gmail.com.
