(Jobe)
>>Original Bordeaux Mtn highpoint
>>N 18 20.02' W 64 43.40'
>>Elevation 1283'-1289' with crude altimeter.

>>New area with boundary marker
>>N 18 20.02' W 64 43.43'
>>Elevation 1248'-1253' with crude altimeter.

Good info Jobe.

The topo map is online at

http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/topo/virgin_islands/txu-oclc-20009999-western_st_john-1982.jpg

Moving west .03' is roughly 150 feet, and according
to the topo map you would drop about 40 feet if you went 150
feet west of the mapped HP.

Not sure how to get meaningful Lat/Long off the topo map,
in particular is the mapped Lat/Long "Puerto Rico Datum,
1940 adjustment" ??

Just for fun lets look at some online maps:

Google terrain, 380 to 400 meters contour in about
the right place (lets give a letter grade of B)
http://listsofjohn.com/mapf?lat=18.3341&lon=-64.7280&z=15&t=t

GaiaGPS, two 380-390 areas, plus a marker for HP
of 377 meters that is outside of both areas (Grade D)
https://www.gaiagps.com/map/#?lat=18.3317&lon=-64.7267&zoom=16

ArcGis World, a 403m (1320 foot) spot elevation on wrong
side of road (Grade D)

http://listsofjohn.com/mapf?lat=18.3356&lon=-64.7269&z=15&t=w

So unless the USGS map is bogus, we conclude that
60 years of progress and powerful computers give
us lousier maps :(

New National Monuments in California

According to reports, California is soon expected to add three new national monuments under President Obama's use of the Antiquities Act.
http://www.sfchronicle.com/news/article/Mojave-Desert-areas-on-verge-of-protection-under-6795729.php?t=e0f98cd00f&cmpid=fb-premium http://www.sfchronicle.com/news/article/Mojave-Desert-areas-on-verge-of-protection-under-6795729.php?t=e0f98cd00f&cmpid=fb-premium
(you may need to subscribe to see the entire article)

The monuments would be located on the state's eastern side and would seek to fill in missing areas of the Mojave Desert ecosystem conservation grid. Based on the maps generated by the Center for Biological Diversity http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/campaigns/california_national_monuments, a preliminary analysis indicates the new high points to be:

Snow to Sand National Monument - Mount San Gorgonio http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=1417 (11,503) [San Bernardino CoHP, Ultra, Range HP, highest mountain in Southern California, etc]
Castle Mountains National Monument - Hart Peak http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=35914 (5,545)
Mojave Trails National Monument - This one is a little trickier to figure out because the designation covers many desert ranges, but I think the honor goes to Cady Peak http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=16796http:// (4,627) [CA P2K]

Corrections/edits are welcome.

High points for other recently designated monuments in California:

Berryessa-Snow Mountain National Monument - Snow Mountain http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=1174http:// (7,056) [Colusa/Lake CoHP, CA P2K, Wilderness HP, etc]
San Gabriel Mountains National Monument - Mount San Antonio http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=1338http:// (10,064) [Los Angeles CoHP, Ultra, Range HP, etc]
Fort Ord National Monument - El Chamisal http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=52189 (940)
