Hello,

>From an activist email I received today, ... (not that anyone here has ever trespassed ...)

Eco-trespassers in your backyard?David,

Green campaigners are demanding the right to trespass wherever and whenever they want.

CFACT senior policy analyst Bonner Cohen details efforts at CFACT.org by a Green group, the "Western Watershed Project," to overturn property protection laws in Wyoming.

"Outrage over widespread reports of trespassing on rural property, together with the dismissal of WWPs water-quality data by Wyoming officials, prompted legislators last year to pass two new trespassing bills, both of which were signed into law by Republican Gov. Matt Mead. 'Under the previous trespass laws, the burden was on the landowner to show that people were trespassing and some of our courts were not prosecuting,' Brett Moline, director of public and governmental affairs for the Wyoming Farm Bureau, which supports the new laws, told the Wall Street Journal (Feb.19). Moline says the new laws put the burden on the person collecting data to know when he or she is on private land."

We have federal, state and local environmental protection laws and personnel in place. Often too many.

We don't need self-appointed Green vigilantes showing up on our land wherever they please.

This sucks. In the past, all I had to do was tell a land owner I'm not a hunter and show no gun or traps of any kind, and they would usually let me on the land. But environmentalists trespassing probably look a lot like someone who just wants to hike. Wyoming is pretty open country though with a lot of BLM lands, but it seems like every approach to a lot of the county highpoints in the state have to go through private land to get to them.

Hello,

From an activist email I received today, ... (not that
anyone here has ever trespassed ...)

Eco-trespassers
in your backyard?
David,

Green campaigners are demanding the right to trespass
wherever and whenever they want.

CFACT senior policy analyst Bonner Cohen details efforts at
CFACT.org by a Green group, the "Western Watershed
Project," to overturn property protection laws in
Wyoming.

"Outrage over widespread reports of trespassing on
rural property,
together with the dismissal of WWPs water-quality data by
Wyoming
officials, prompted legislators last year to pass two new
trespassing
bills, both of which were signed into law by Republican Gov.
Matt Mead.
'Under the previous trespass laws, the burden was on the
landowner to
show that people were trespassing and some of our courts
were not
prosecuting,' Brett Moline, director of public and
governmental affairs
for the Wyoming Farm Bureau, which supports the new laws,
told the Wall
Street Journal (Feb.19). Moline says the new laws put the
burden on the
person collecting data to know when he or she is on private
land."

We have federal, state and local environmental protection
laws and personnel in place. Often too many.

We don't need self-appointed Green vigilantes showing up
on our land wherever they please.

Florida Trip Reports

One day jaunt to Tampa to do the city highpoint and run a string of counties north to connect with my home glob. Perfect FL weather--80 degrees, very dry, and mostly sunny. The drive home from Newark Airport to my house at 1:30 AM featured snow and 25-degree temperatures. These reports will also be posted on Peakbagger.

One area (170+ feet)

Details on the ground are unchanged from Ben Lostracco's report on Peakbagger. Steel post is still there. Note to Ben: The address of the house across the road from the hp is #14250, rather than #4250 as in your T/R. I drove west on CR 464 from its junction with US-41, distance 5.5 miles to the hp.

One area (230+ feet)

At the access gate, I used the "I'd like to visit the pro shop" routine that someone on PB had tried successfully, and it worked like a charm. Being an occasionally honest guy, I actually did visit the shop and picked up a memento for my wife's golfer uncle. I then used the "easier access route" described in Dave Covill's T/R, walked through the rows of pines, and scooted onto the golf course's highest bumps in between golfers.

If one is loathe to fib to the gate guards, another option is to park at the CVS immediately east of the entrance on CR-486 and walk onto the property, using the aerial photos as a guide.

Chinsegut Hill (274') and one area (270+ feet).

Fred Lobdell's directions from 1999 will get you to the two highpoints. The structure atop the northern area at Chinsegut Hill is now a retreat, open to the public and is a drive-up. If the gate at the base of the hill were closed, it would be a short walk up the road to the top. Some views to the west. Nothing changed at the southern area.

Pasco FL

Spot Elevation (301 feet

Previous reports will get you to the spot elevation where the road turns 90 degrees. Based on LIDAR, Andy Hatzos had opined that there was slightly higher (~ 1-2 feet) ground just northwest of the spot elevation. Following his directions, I walked north on the two-track road for ten tree rows, then walked about 200 feet west. The ground may have risen a bit, but as Andy stated, we're not talking about much relief. It only takes a couple of minutes to do the walk, and it's worth the little bit of effort.

Wish I'd known you were visiting my hometown! I would have taken you for some good Cuban food. I need to redo Citrus County and I have yet to deal with the city high point.

Thanks Dan for a good review on how to use an Ipad for
chasing peaks. A couple follow ups

1) GPS on IPad
>>Some iPad owners buy the version without cell phone coverage.

It can be tough to figure out which Ipad models have GPS.
For example
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201471
iPad Air 2 Year: Late 2014
Model number (on the back cover):
A1566 on the iPad Air 2
A1567 on the iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular

I believe you need the model that includes "Cellular"
to get GPS. You don't have to actually get a Cell
Phone contract, but the model with GPS will cost more.

My old Ipad, (bought used), did not have GPS,
so I bought an add on GPS called Bad Elf iPad GPS.
This is aptly named, you have to constantly fool
with the Bad Elf to get GPS working, plus it comes
unplugged easily.

2) Theft
A newer model IPad with lots of memory & GPS can
run over $500, and makes an attractive target
for theft. I usually don't carry mine hiking, but do
take it along when parking at places where break ins
could be a problem. A friend had his Kindle stolen from
a vehicle parked overnight at Charlie Bell Pass AZ.
