This suffers from the usual LoJ feature of ignoring ties. For instance there is a 2nd contender for NH liner on the W slope of Rump Mtn. That particular boundary is marked so LiDAR could resolve it.

Friends - by clicking the SPOT link above, and going to pages 1 thru 5, you
can view out trek. The SPOT seems to have functioned pretty well most of
the time. Go to MAP view, be sure to click on the sub-button called TERRAIN
to see contours.

I forgot to shut it off when we finished, and it registered our drive from
White City at the terminus where our cars were staged, up to Carlsbad.
Oooooppsss.......

*******************************

6 days. About 75 miles or so. We will develop a GPS track to it, and a
writeup. Ranged from 8,749' atop Guadalupe down to about 3,600' in White
City. About 40% of the trek was above 7,000', about 70% was above 6,000',
about 95% was above 5,000'. Our camps were at 7,400', 5,400', 7,200',
6,200', 6,100'. Pretty cold each night, between 33 and 40d for 4 of the 5
nights. We caught a snowstorm on night 4, but were close to a USFS cabin
that had our food and water cache, so we just stayed there. Sweet.... Saw
one rattler up close, other mammals and birds, lots of cacti, wildflowers.
Huge range of tree species. Final day was a beee-atchhhhhhh..... Trail is
almost non-existent in far west end of CAVE NP. Did swing by CAVE NP HP to
say hello to it. Found an ancient NPS border marker located ~150' due N of
the E-W fenceline we all presume to mark the boundary of it. Odd. But, HP
is still the high rise on the hill there.

Water is scarce, a few springs had some. South McKittrick Creek had a flow
here and there, but went underground in spots too. The powers that be will
need to establish some sort of water source in 2-3 places in the USFS or
far western CAVE, or this thing won't see much use.

Ended up with a team of Jennifer Roach, Ron & Jan Schmidt, Bob Dawson, me.
They all are experienced desert rats and long distance hikers. Great team.
I was along solely to carry the Jameson's.....

;)

Stay tuned. They may re-name it the GCT ( Guadalupe-Carlsbad Trail ) to
avoid confusion with Great Eastern Trail and Grand Enchantment Trail.
Beautiful country. Not a desert hike really, more a West Texas mountain
hike with some low desert spots to spice it up.
