Given the climate of that county highpoint and expected weather conditions, an early morning start is good. Perhaps an even earlier start would be better.

Highs in the lower deserts on Wednesday are forecasted to be about 100 F,
which means a morning start will work well.

By Monday, though, the weather services are forecasting temperatures at or
above 120 F from El Centro to Phoenix. They rarely actually forecast 120
degrees. Often, they'll lowball it, but this time, it seems like it may
actually happen.

TX - Goliad & San Patricio

San Patricio, Mitchler, 6-12-16
Thank you Covill & Oeser for your 2000 & 2004 reports. Nothing new to add except the "grass" between the frontage road and fence is full of thorny weeds. Also, the ROW disc marker has been uprooted so that the disc-imbedded cement column lays on the ground surface.

Goliad, Mitchler, 6-12-16
Thank you Jacobs for your 2002 report. I did this one on my way back north from Rockport to Austin. During our drive south I had taken this side road to get Goliad as an EMC, unaware that the cohp was a mile further down the road. The only change since 2002 is that the "Devon" sign is now "Trinity River Energy Operating LLC." Also, there are two other signs at the locked gate: "Keep Gate Closed" and "Private Road - travel at your own risk." I should add that the highpoint rise is covered in horrid 6' high dense thorny vegetation. Luckily there are two wide swaths cut north-south across this closed contour.

We are now in Austin for our cousin's outdoor wedding. The heat index is forecasted to be 106.

As a native Texan, I greatly wonder at the sanity of anyone who would schedule an outdoor wedding in June here!
