Some pre-convention COHP conditions

I had some mix ups in plans this week and was wandering closer to the convention earlier than I had planned so I have a few road condition reports in case people were thinking of hitting some points near or somewhat near con.

Stratford Hill - Yellowstone county - Roads are great. No 'no trespassing' signs still.

North Butte - Campbell county - Contacted the ranchers and they said it's too dry in the fields right now and they won't be accepting anyone onto their property until they get a lot more moisture.

Mine Benchmark - Natrona county - The back-country byway is good for 2wd almost all of the way. The middle piney creek crossing still has water and might be a bit rough for a 2wd (and even though dry, the south piney creek is a bit rough). For the hardcore 4wd folks. There are no boggy spots all the way to the shoulder of the high point should you want to travel through both gates.

If you're looking for climbing gear, there's a great bouldering gym in Billings called Steepworld.
If you're looking for any type of hiking gear, there is a huge Scheels on the west end of Billings.

Seattle radio personality John Carlson
<http://kvi.com/john-carlson-12-10-2015>, who is on the air 6 - 10 am
weekdays on 570 KVI <http://kvi.com>, is beginning a climb on Thursday,
Aug. 11 to ascend Glacier Peak
<http://www.cohp.org/wa/washington.xml#Snohomish>, highest point of
Snohomish County, WA. He is climbing to raise funds for cancer
research at Fred
Hutchinson Cancer Research Center <https://www.fredhutch.org/en.html>.
This is the 11th consecutive year that he has done such a climb, and he has
previously climbed peaks such as Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, Mt. Hood, and Mt.
Olympus.

He has a donation page "Welcome to John Carlson's Climb to Fight Cancer Web
Page
<http://getinvolved.fhcrc.org/site/TR?px=1366069&fr_id=1480&pg=personal> "
where you can donate to cancer research at Fred Hutch and to help him
succeed on his climb.

Ken

Good evening Jerry:

Mike Waltz here (we met atop Mount Grant at the challenge in 2011, and had dinner afterward).

I am interested in meeting for the Big Horn cohp tomorrow.

I spoke with your wife but had some trouble communicating.

I am accompanied by another Highpointers, Bill Musser.

The two of us were supposed to summit Granite today, but it did not work it and we are interested in joining your hike.

Please call or email a response when you can.
856-979-3554

Thanks,

Mike Waltz
