I don't remember the details on exact location, but it would appear that my buddy Shane and I did indeed find the Capon BM in 2011. See the 6th photo in this album: https://goo.gl/photos/DxEi3AUQeiGB5urd6 https://goo.gl/photos/DxEi3AUQeiGB5urd6

Colorado Ice Ax signing

"John Mitchler" mitchler69

Those of you in the Denver area this Sunday Sept 11 may wish to attend the Colorado Ice Ax signing frenzy, to be held at 6 pm at Native Foods in Glendale.

Our vintage wood handle ice ax has been signed by nearly every completer of the 64 Colorado cohps (brainchild of Dave Covill), and this Sunday it will receive the signatures of four additional Completers:

Susan Joy Paul - Vermilion - 9-15-15
Dave Johnson - Mineral - 9-26-15
Doug Hatfield - Montrose - 10-31-15
Mike Offerman - Delta - 9-5-16

We'll bring this ax to the next Highpointers Konvention for all to view (North Adams MA 7-22-17).

- John M.

Congratulations to Mike Offerman on his completion of the county HPs of Colorado. Mike finished the Centennial State on Labor Day, Sep. 5, 2016, in Delta County. He is the 39th person to complete Colorado.

UFCs Miesha Tate carries injured girl down Mount Charleston trail

Former UFC womens bantamweight champion Miesha Tate
<http://mieshatate.com/> carried a 6-year-old girl with a broken arm down Mount
Charleston <http://cohp.org/nv/Clark_2.html> on Sunday, according to a post
on the fighters Facebook <https://www.facebook.com/mieshatatefanpage/>
account.

Today a little girl broke her arm up at the top of Mary Jane falls, Tate
wrote in the Facebook post Sunday. When Tate saw the girls meekly built
mother struggling to carry her, she offered to take the girl the rest of
the way down the mountain.

Tate said the girls mother offered the girl the option of who would carry
her down the mountain, and to Tates surprise she quickly replied I want
HER to carry me.

Kai and I learned a lot about each other on the roughly 2 mile descent,
Tate wrote. Its fair to say she inspired me.

Windom vs Eolus, prominence/CoHP king resolved

[post by Doug Harris, Forwarded from the prominence egroup]

Eolus and Windom are both located in the Chicago Basin north of Durango.
Some maps have Eolus listed as the higher of the two, while others
suggest that Windom is slightly taller. Several people have
hypothesized that the source of the confusion is that the Windom
benchmark is placed several feet below the real peak. My son and I went
up to Chicago Basin over the Labor Day weekend and surveyed the two
peaks using a Trimble professional-grade GPS unit. After post
correction of the positions, we have reached the following measurements.
The listed uncertainty number is the one sigma level. There is a 98%
confidence that Windom is the taller of these two peaks, making it the
p2k king along with CoHP champion.

Eolus: 37.6218N, 107.6227W
*14085.4 ft +/- 2.1*
Windom: 37.6212N, 107.5919W
*14089.9 ft +/- 1.4*

This real-world example shows the strengths and limitations of surveying
GPS for resolving peak heights. There needs to be ~4' difference in
elevation to definitively end disputes.

Cheers,
Doug and Arthur Harris
