However the outreach is made to the hunting club, the club board will have to vote on it so I would suggest approaching them with the idea of allowing access one day a year first and not just for the convention. There will be many interested in access during the convention and I doubt the club would want 25 or more people descending on their property for a day. Some, or maybe all of the board members were not aware of access granted by the previous caretaker, who left a few years ago, but my understanding was that the board was going to address the issue. Of course we don't know if they ever did. If we are going to approach the club, the best outcome would be one day a year access so that is where we should start, my opinion.

Any thought about making contact with the owners of Croydon Peak, for a possible climb during the convention time frame? Maybe it's possible that if a few of us ponied up several hundred dollars each they may be open to the idea? Maybe even a significantly sized donation to a charity of their choice? Of course the perks of getting a few of us off the radar might be of interest, as well? We could inform them of other success stories we've had in the past when it came to an open access date even if this wasn't to be an annual occurrence.

If possible, I could act as a go-between if someone had the contact info along with a few kind suggestions as to what to include in the message. Ideas?

My personal opinion is that the hunting club are likely to say no to any proposal, and if they say no to the first one they won't even consider any more. Similarly the Highpointers Club may be more interested in sponsoring a request for a convention time. If you ask for a day every year so will every other club, while a once-in-a-blue-moon convention may be special.

At a fee of $100 I'm not sure how many people will be interested, particularly as YOU SHOULDN'T ADVERTISE IT. The visits were going fine until a new board member read about them on the Internet, the club may dislike the advertising more than the visit. Word of mouth will get enough people for a trip.

I know that BobP arranged his visit with the board, not sure if Fred and Mike talked to board or manager. By the time Adam led a trip he just contacted the caretaker. These people may be willing to share privately what worked for them.

By the time of my visit, it was pretty well established that if one contacted Gerry, the caretaker (since retired), arrangements could be made. I met Trapper and Roxanne outside the gate, and the three of us were admitted together. Gerry gave us a nice tour of the clubhouse building, and then drove us in his 4WD truck to the T/H. Picked us up at the same place and returned us to the clubhouse so we could retrieve our cars. Head fee then was $50.

My visit was 15 years ago, and others will have more current info.

I agree that Croydon would be a very tough and risky stealth. We heard boars snuffling in the undergrowth very near the trail, and those babies are big and dangerous. Plus the peak is not particularly close to the border fence. Plus any trespassers apprehended would almost surely be prosecuted. Glad I don't still need the peak for a completion.
