The Clayton County HP can be reached literally without a car from the Atlanta airport. Maybe an hour roundtrip at most from the main terminal...

As for Rogers, Charlotte is probably your best bet. Knoxville, Charleston WV, etc would work as well but are farther and have fewer flight options.

You might look at a flight into Tri-cities Regional airport serving Bristol, Johnson City and Kingston, TN. Roanoke, VA would also be a slightly farther option.

I had a day in ATL a few Summers ago and managed to squeeze in 5 county high points within an hour from ATL and the ATL city high point.
Stone mtn when the park opened, the ATL city highpoint is in a downtown area not far from Olympic Parkthe Clayton co highpoint is near the airportCoweta county has 3 contours but they are easily accessedand Andy mtn (Douglas co) is an easy walk up from a neighborhood street along a power line cut that gives a pretty good view and I-20 goes right back into ATL
None were substantial prominence points but it was really only about half a day.I was back downtown by 3 or 4 to pick up my wife from a conference. We did Kennesaw mtn the previous day but that would be an easy add on
If you have a full day, heading north would provide a lot of opportunities in the Blue Ridge area. I assume you have been to Brasstown?Alternatively, you could go west to the Alabama line if you want an actual hike. Shorty mtn (Polk Co, GA) and Flagpole mtn (Cherokee co, AL) are about 10 miles, but that may be ambitious in winter.

To answer your snow question: very unpredictable. If the ground is clear, and you wanted Northeast Georgia specifically, Rabun Bald (Rabun), Tray Mtn (Harbersham and White), Brasstown Bald (Towns and GA), and Blood Mtn (Lumpkin) are all easy hikes. You'd have to drive ~2.5 hrs from the airport to one end, and probably another 60-90 minutes of driving in between them all, but you could get them all with just a few miles of hiking, (Blood is longest at ~5 miles RT) and all have good views.

If you don't mind a plane switch to a regional airport, Tri-Cities between
Bristol and Johnson City, TN is just over an hour from the Elk Garden
trailhead. Likewise for Roanoke, VA but a bit over two hours. For a major
airport, maybe Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC?
That's about 2 1/2 hours away.

Jerimoth Hill RI, Frissell S Slope CT, High Point NJ
Tue Dec 6, 2016 5:57 am (PST) . Posted by:
"Bryan Kraai" bkraai2003
I left Columbus at 4pm Thursday afternoon and drove to an interstate oasis about 10 hours from home. I slept in the back of my truck for about 5 hours. I headed off to Jerimoth Hill and arrived at 8:05am. The sign indicated as the internet said, it was "open" at 8am.
A short hike of maybe .25 mile and I was there. Not much more than I'd expect for a hp only 800 or so feet above sea level.
>From there I drove to Cape Cod and traveled to lookout towers and lighthouses for the rest of the day.
With recent weather reports having been favorable I thought an attempt on getting to the TH for Frissell was warranted. After some re-routing due to a bridge out on the Mt Washington Rd on the Mass side I found my way to the state line. Another night in the truck and I awoke to chilly temps. I geared up and headed out by 8:15. First up to Round Mt, then Mt Frissell followed by the south slope. At least the hp gets some decent views. I then continued on to the 3 points on Brace Mt. From South Brace I followed someones ill advised GPS track bushwacking through rhododendron hell. Came across a hunter who luckily saw my bright yellow (not blaze orange) jacket. He said hello and asked if I knew where I was. I assured him I did know (aside from being in hell). Soon after I found the old road/trail and followed it to the main road. Up the road I hit the trail for Bear Mt. at that summit is a stone monument of sorts that back in 1885 they believed was the "highest ground in CT". We know today that's not true, but it may well be the highest summit in CT.
I returned to my truck and thought I'd roll the dice in drive to High Point State Park in NJ in time, as they close the park at 4:30. It was currently 2:30 and the drive was 2hr 10min according to Google Maps. I made up some time which I ended up giving back on account of a needed gas stop.
I didn't know what to expect when driving into the park but as the distance to the monument on Google Maps decreased my hopes of reaching the summit increased. I drove into the park and soon passed by the toll booth ($20 for out of staters!!) luckily for me the booth wasn't staffed (it was 4:40pm) I drove to the top and got my prerequisite photos of the huge monument and the views. The lights for the monument suddenly came on and in a few minutes the monument shone brightly against the darkening sky. A few more pics and as. I began to return to my truck a Park Police vehicle came up and said they were locking up for the night. Happy with 10 minutes at the top I headed out with policeman close behind to ensure I wouldn't try to make a sudden turn and stay the night.
It was a great trip and only favorable weather had made CT and NJ possible.
Now I'm sitting at 17 SHP's and am hoping for the opportunity for another road trip sometime early next year.

Regarding High Point, a vehicle fee is in effect only from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and as Bryan notes, it can be pretty steep for non-NJ residents. If the gate is closed, or if one wishes to save the fee, there is nothing to stop you from parking in the large lot at park HQs across NJ-23 from the main entrance and walking the park road for about 1.5 miles each way to the monument. If rangers spotted you after hours they might send you packing, but once the park closes, I doubt if they do much if any active patrolling. Should be easy enough to stay out of sight.

Hi all:

Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions, both publicly and privately, on my upcoming Day in Atlanta and tips in getting to Mt. Rogers in Virginia. I got lots of great information and am looking forward to these two days of adventure in the southeast in the first half of 2017.

Too many people were helpful to name them all, but I must single out the great Kevin Williamson, who actually called me to discuss Georgia. Kevin still remains the only person to complete Georgia, so it was great to get his suggestions. A lost art, this conversation thing.

Happy trails,

Coby
