Here are geo center goals during your next upper Great Plains cohping trip (which likely won't be anytime soon given the brutal winter weather).

1) North America - Rugby ND (traditional)
2) North America - Robinson ND (new)
3) US (50 states) - Belle Fourche SD
4) US Continental (49 states) - Belle Fourche SD
5) US conterminous (48 states) - Lebanon KS

For the 50 states there is a sizeable monument at the visitor's center on the north side of Belle Fourche SD. If you ask them they will reluctantly give you directions to the 'actual' geo-center, located 20 or 30 miles north of Belle Fourche. There is a smaller monument there. The pamphlet they give you, with text about what sort of work is needed to figure the location and who did it, mentions that it is known to an accuracy of about 10 miles. ...

The pamphlet also mentions the 49 state geo-center, about 1 mile away to the north, without providing directions to it.

I have been to the monuments to the geo-centers of the 50 states and the 48 states.

Let's not forget our confluence friends and the center of the northwestern quadrashpere45N, 90W - DCP: 45 degrees north, 0 degrees (visit #1)IF you haven't read the account of the guy that went to the northeast center in China, it's pretty good http://confluence.org/confluence.php?lat=45&lon=90

We also have a marked center in Tennessee. The obelisk is not quite accurate as I understand but it's an easy stop about a mile from where the marker is near MTSU Geographic Center of Tennessee Historical Marker

Any other states have marked center points?

The Center of the Nation (all 50), as they call it, is actually 21 miles north of Belle Forche on 85 and then 5 to 6 miles west on a dirt road. There was a tiny little sign on the road that gave us a hint to it. I did not go to the tourist one in town. Purest.

Wikipedia recently published an updated list of newly calculated geographic centers of states https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_geographic_centers_of_the_United_States. There are a few significant updates. For fun I made a list of high points of counties containing the geographic centers of states on peakbagger: http://www.peakbagger.com/list.aspx?lid=-927075&cid=6959.

I intend to get as close as possible to the newly reported geographical centers and report when I do the high points of their respective counties.

I worked with a guy who was trying to locate the center of Arizona for the
state's centennial in 2012. We used a number of techniques, and since AZ is
"mostly" a squarish state, they all fall close to one another.

Unfortunately, they all fall in the Mazatzal Wilderness on the west slopes
of the Mazatzal Range, which requires a backpacking expedition to find. He
said he was going to place a marker, but I don't know if he did.

AZ was one that switched counties with the new calculation. As I recall it's somewhere in the very complex border between Gila and Yavapai

Re: What I did in 2016 . . . City HPs

If you ever get around to Memphis, it seems like it is in the southern part of the county near the Mississippi state line. The COHP is five 430 but it is pretty unlikely that Memphis would ever incorporate any of those points (one is already in another municipality, 2 are blocked by a different municipality and the last 2 are pretty far from the current Memphis city limits)
I have found one small 400 ft contour in the city limits and a 420 ft one that is very near the current limits near the MS border. I have not found any other 400+ ft contours that are in the city proper
My current candidates:400 ft - 34.99891 -89.94622
420 ft - 34.99677 -89.82039
I welcome any thoughts or additions

Michigan
Charlevoix County
Hudson Lookout
September 11, 2016

Previous directions are still valid. The transmitter is still there as are the trees.

Michigan
Baraga County (partial)
Mount Arvon
September 13, 2016

After a rain, the dirt roads were a little soggy but drivable. The signs are back up. Baraga County Tourism still has the directions for Arvon and Curwood. I wasn't brave enough to try Curwood that day, but I'll be back. There is now a new summit register mailbox, picnic bench, and fire pit by the benchmark.

Michigan
Dickinson County
Sagola Lookout
September 15, 2016

The tower that previous reports said was at this point is now gone. There are some footprints left and a survey marker with a witness post, though it had seen better days, it seems. The dirt path to it is drivable. The highest natural point seems where a tree stump is on a bump.

Marathon County
Rib Mountain
September 19, 2016

Previous directions are still valid. The day entry fee at Rib Mountain State Park is now $11. I bouldered up the tor to the top. A plaque on the tor said it was the highest known point in Wisconsin when surveyed. Also, I like the word tor.

Wisconsin
Sheboygan County
Parnell Observation Tower
September 21, 2016

Easy drive to and a short walk up. There wasn't any fall foliage yet, but I still got great shots over all the land, and many birds were circling above.
