Hayford Peak NV access may change

Ron Moe (info below) believes that Ultra prominence Hayford
Peak access may become restricted in 2018:

http://peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=3717
https://listsofjohn.com/peak/16703

I'm not able to confirm this with a good map online,
the following link has a poor map:

http://www.basinandrangewatch.org/Military-Base-expansion.html

In any case if you are thinking about hiking Hayford some day
sooner is better than later.

County Highpointers can spot Hayford from nearby Charleston
Peak, Clark COHP, and decide if it is worthwhile :)

(Ron Moe)
Also, got word [...] that the expansion of both(in NV) the Nellis Air
Base and the Fallon Naval Air Station is going to happen - so expect it
to happen. Therefore, if you could spread the word to your area
peakbaggers that Hayford Pk being a NV ultra prominent peak needs to be
done sooner than later. It may happen in 2018. [...]

Here's a thread from Summitpost:

http://www.summitpost.org/phpBB3/hayford-peak-access-threat-t81377.html?hilit=hayford

They had a window of time to submit comments (thru Dec 2016). I submitted
mine. I hope there is some sort of access allowance, e.g. akin to the Barry
Goldwater Range in Arizona.

According to the site for the proposed action, Congress isn't set to make a
decision until 2021:

A bunch of us wrote in during the comment period last year.

AZ County High Pointing newspaper articles

Darren Barakat has written a couple nice
articles on county highpointing in AZ.

He hiked Rice Peak twice in conjunction with
the Pinal COHP article, which is certainly
more impressive than my 4wd assisted ascents (ahem).

(Darren)
Andy, the highpointing stuff has been published. It is in the Tri-Valley
Dispatch, which is a weekly supplement to the Casa Grande Dispatch,
Coolidge Examiner, Florence Reminder and Eloy Enterprise newspapers.
Thanks for your help.

Very cool!

I had to have been within feet of it but I saw "big kitty" tracks in the
snow on my way down from Rice Peak summit in November 2015. I was coming up
on dusk hours and trail running back to my car parked back on the Mt Lemmon
road so didn't get too bogged down in looking for it considering my fleeing
prey status...
