USGS BM Shanghai on Third Hill Mtn (2,172 ft)

To approach the trailhead from the east, go west 4.2 miles from Shanghai on CR 7-13/Hampshire Grade Road. Just before the trailhead, pass a forest road on the right, signed as Old Still Trail. Less than 100 yards further on the left is a blue-blazed, former jeep trail, heading south, shown on the topo. Twenty minutes on this excellent, well-marked trail brings one to the beacon-less tower. I checked out the many promising boulders nearby, but saw no BM or reference marks. The 1935 monument placement apparently preceded the tower, and the marks may have been obliterated by tower construction.

three areas extending 1/4 mile south of USGS BM Shanghai (2,160+ ft)

For the southern three areas, continue south on the blue trail, which passes very close to the summit of the next two knobs. The two southernmost areas are very hard to distinguish from one another, but walking the crest of the knob will ensure covering all high ground.
