Clay County Highpoint Trip Report
Date: September 16, 2008
Author: Charlie Zerphey
Two points make up the highpoints of this county but I will comment on Bird Knob only.
Directions are OK but I decided to hike up the road to the house and met
the owner, 76 year old Ted Jones who raised 13 children on this homestead.
I also met two of his sons and one grandson. I too was unable to locate the
benchmark but I was running late and didn't spend too much time on the summit.
To future CoHPers to this HP, go through the unlocked gate, then close the gate
as there are cattle on the mountain. The drive is pretty rough but the Jones's
drive it in pick-ups and passenger cars. Mr. Jones said welcome to all HPers
and come again. I gave Mr. Jones my topo print-out of the area.
