Jackson County Highpoint Trip Report
Garnes Knob (1,225 feet)
Date: May 14, 2009
Author: Fred Lobdell
Mike Schwartz's report is still good. There are two gates, almost at the
road crest, that lead into the pasture containing the first knob,
which sports a large tank on top but which is 50 or 60 feet lower than
Garnes Knob. The eastern gate was directly across the highway from a house.
I used the western gate.
The topographic map shows a pipeline passing directly over the first knob
and a few feet west of the BM on Garnes Knob. I walked the farm road
which contoured around the first knob, then climbed up the cleared pipeline
swath to the summit of Garnes Knob.
Benchmark "Garnes 2" was a few feet east among some trees
and set into a low concrete post.
