Preston County High Point Trip Report

Author: Fred Lobdell

This is on Backbone Mountain, a couple of miles southwest of the MD state HP. The National Forest boundary runs right along the ridge line at this point. The land east of the ridge is posted as private property, but staying 6 inches west of the ridge crest should keep you on public land. You can hike up from US 219 on a gated Forest Service road to the ridge crest, then turn right and bushwhack through open woods to the HP. The HP itself is marked by a rocky outcrop and is quite well defined.
